Free to Use
Every sound here can go into videos, podcasts, games, apps and paid client work. Each clip shows which of these three licences it has.
CC0
The creator has given up their copyright. Use the sound however you like, change it, sell work that includes it, and skip the credit. Most sounds on the site are CC0.
Public domain
Works made by US government agencies, such as the National Park Service recordings, have no copyright. They work exactly like CC0.
CC BY (Attribution)
Free for any use, including commercial, as long as you credit the recordist. The clip shows the credit line to use, for example Barred Owl, Jane Doe, CC BY 4.0
. Put it wherever credits go: the video description, end credits or an about screen.
What none of them cover
The licences cover the recording. They do not let you claim the sound as your own work in a sound library, and they do not stop a platform's automated copyright system from making a mistake. If a video gets a claim on a CC0 sound, dispute it and link to the clip's source page.
Questions
Do I need to credit SFX Jar?
No. Credit is only needed for clips marked CC BY, and then it goes to the recordist shown on the clip, not to this site.
Can I use these sounds in something I sell?
Yes. All three licences allow commercial use: monetised videos, paid games and apps, ads and client projects.
